Readers

This work was inspired by Laure Adler's book "Les Femmes qui lisent sont dangereuses" (Women who read are dangerous). I met passionate readers of all ages and from all walks of life. I wanted to introduce myself into this moment of assumed freedom and abandonment to the inner journey, through a discreet presence, as unobtrusive as possible. To do this, I chose to settle in with them for the long duration of a 20-minute shoot, using a pinhole camera. It's as much about making portraits of women as it is about capturing the atmosphere of these acts of reading. These images are landscape portraits.
