Ålvik

These photographs represent the climatic conditions of the Hardanger Fjord, located 100 km from Bergen in Norway. I visited this site inspired by Ibsen's play "The Lady of the Sea", which tells the story of a woman magnetized by the fjord. I was fascinated by the variations offered by the primary elements: rock, sky and sea. The vagaries of the weather played out a visual liturgy that was either minimal or complex, turning rock into liquid, water into solid, sky into monument. Every day, it was like dreaming projections that humanity had ceased to inhabit. I tried to capture the immemorial aspect of these majestic mutations. I concentrated on a small enough portion of the landscape to give full expression to the effect of variation. At the heart of the cosmic rhythm, I wanted to create miniatures of arrested time.
